2027 Legislative Session

The 2027 Legislative Session convenes at noon on Tuesday, January 19, 2027. Senator Duhigg is already working on her priority bills for the 2027 session, which will be a 60-day session.

Here are some of the bills that Sen. Duhigg is working on:

Policy changes to ensure that New Mexico remains ranked as  one of the best states in the nation for election administration and that we are well-prepared for whatever may come from Washington, D.C. and the federal administration.

Legislation to ensure that healthcare workers are able to report concerns when they see dangerous behaviors or conditions without losing their livelihood or being retaliated against. 

Legislation to "put the teeth" back into Healthcare Consolidation Oversight Act. In 2025 billion dollar medical corporations managed to gut key protections in the Act. This will add those protections back in to ensure that the state has meaningful oversight over corporate acquisitions of healthcare in New Mexico.

The Medical Board is supposed to protect the public, but too often it protects doctors with a pattern of hurting patients instead. These reforms will restore the Medical Board to its intended purpose: keeping patients safe by exercising true regulation over the professionals we trust with our health.

In the 11th hour in 2025, key language requiring transparency from the Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD) regarding child fatalities and near fatalities was stripped. This bill restores that language because we can’t fix what we can’t see.

This bill will ensure the enforcement of laws protecting residents of mobile home parks. Right now, it looks like there are good laws on the books protect these residents, but there is no real way to enforce them. This bill will add the ability to enforce these laws.
